RM of Mount Hope’s story
The Rural Municipality of Mount Hope No. 279 was incorporated as a rural municipality on December 11, 1911. It lies in east-central Saskatchewan, and the RM office is in Semans.
The towns and villages of Raymore, Punnichy, Quinton and Semans are surrounded by the RM, and it also takes in the localities of Booth, Last Mountain and Tate, which was dissolved as a village on May 15, 1961.
Today the area is known for the Mount Hope Wildlife Management Unit, a provincially protected conservation area of 14,475 hectares. At its heart is Kurawagan Lake, a saline lake split into three basins and regulated by dykes. It is the centre of the Kutawagan Important Bird Area and a key habitat for ducks, geese, tundra swan, sandhill crane and piping plover, among other birds. Visitors can also stop at the Raymore Pioneer Museum and the Semans & District Museum.
